H
aving finished assess-
ing the local golf cours-
es, I don’t know how
many people would agree with
me. One thing’s for sure, I
think I am correct about the
first two, Tryall and Cinnamon
Hill. Remember, the choices are
my personal opinion.
I’ll now turn to the past year.
I think it has been an outstand-
ing one. We have seen the rise
of many young players, the out-
standing one being Rory
McIlroy, the young Irishman.
He was the leading money win-
ner on both tours, PGA and
European. It was a foregone
conclusion, long before the sea-
son ended.
The Europeans have, more or
less, dominated the tours. Luke
Donald is the number-two play-
er in the world with Tiger
Woods third. For want of a bet-
ter word, the most improved
‘rookie’ is the Belgian, Nicholas
Colsaerts, who was a strong
member of the European Ryder
Cup team.
FIRST GREEN JACKET
The PGA has a couple good
youngsters, Keegan Bradley, a
major winner already (PGA),
and Webb Simpson, (American
Open winner) . America has
many others. The United
States is very rich in young-
sters.
‘Bubba’ Watson won the
Masters and Ernie Ells won the
Open. He played what I consid-
ered the shot of the year, the
iron shot to the final green, in
the Augusta Masters, to wrap
his first green jacket.
‘Bubba’ plays with quite a
nonchalance which many play-
ers would like to have. He’s
quite a character. Many first-
time winners found the top
spot in 2012. My favourite was
‘Two-Glove Gainey’, who won a
regular spot on the PGA tour
for 2013.
The big win of 2012 was the
Europeans’ victory in the Ryder
Cup. They produced a devastat-
ing last day, advancing from a
def icit of six shots, quite a
shock to the United States.
McIlroy was the Player of the
Year. He produced a brilliant
victory in the Race to Dubai,
finishing at 23 under par to
beat Justin Rose by one shot.
Rory produced a devastating
final five holes with consecutive
bindles from 14 to 18.
Justin Rose produced a final-
round record for the course of
62, to finish one shot back at 21
under.
Man of the tournament, for
me, was Thongchai Jaidee who
was on the number-one page at
seventh place. He had a good
year on the European Tour.
Anthony ‘Baba’ Nunes trains
a horse at Caymanas Park.
There have been many heated
battles as to who is the better
player at this time, Tiger or
McIlroy.
The name of the horse is
‘Argument Done’. Draw your
conclusion!
Until next week.

2012 A GOOD YEAR!
