TRIKER Roland Dean announced his goalscor-
ing prowess at Harbour View in no uncertain
manner, hammering home a hat-trick against
Savannah in a 7-0 trouncing of the promoted team
on Wednesday, November 21.
Dean, who played at Tivoli Gardens for more than a
decade is enjoying himself with the Premier League leaders.
He failed to find the back of the net against Humble Lion at
Effortville on Sunday, December 2, but looked dangerous
throughout.
“Today was a 50-50 game, very competitive. It’s just one of
those games, but going on the road and getting a point is not
bad at all,” said the speedy 30-year-old forward.
A product of west Kingston, Dean impressed for Tivoli
Gardens High where he formed a potent strike force with
Christopher Nicholas. The two played an integral role in
Tivoli winning the Manning Cup in 1999, and Dean was
seen as one of the most promising forwards in the island.
After leaving high school, he went to play for Tivoli
Gardens Under-21s before being elevated to the Premier
League team.
MEMORABLE MOMENT
He had a colourful career at Tivoli from 2002-2012, win-
ning basically every trophy with the club.
“I won three Premier League championships with them,
Jackie Bell and All-Island Knockout. I had a great time at
Tivoli,” he said, reliving his most memorable moment.
“It’s the 2009 season when I scored 19 goals to clinch the
title from Portmore (United),” he said.
Looking for new challenges, Dean made the move from
west to east, joining Harbour View at the start of the 2012-
2013 Premier League season.
“It’s good, so far. It’s a different environment,” he said.
“The training is very intense and, the coaching staff, I like
what they are doing so I am just doing my best.”
Dean intends to add to his three goals to end his first sea-
son with Harbour View on a high.
“At this stage in my career, I am just trying to play my
best, trying to score more goals and help Harbor View win
the Premier League.
“I think we have the best team in the league. We have
plenty national players, past and present. If you look at the
team, we have a passing game, which is more beneficial for
me as long as I keep fit.
“Jermaine Hue, John Ross and Kemeel Wolfe, they are
good passers of the ball, so things should be good for
me,” he said.
Dean isn’t ruling out a recall to the national squad.
“When you look at a Jermaine Hue, at 34, getting his
chance, I see it as encouraging for me in still having a shot
at it,” he said.
